Our Country’s Good

Why this production

I was drawn to Our Country’s Good for its questions about punishment and rehabilitation, social class, and the necessity of the arts. Its insistence that theatre matters—and its exploration of who gets the opportunity to participate—felt particularly relevant.

We staged the play outdoors in Castle Park with Stage Craft @ Adult Company, creating an opportunity for local actors to tackle an ambitious text. Some company members had never performed on stage before—a direct connection with the play’s own story of people discovering theatre for the first time.
